CSA Harvest 10: August 6, 2008

During the summers, I must admit that I long for autumn. I want to turn off the A/C and open the windows or go for a run without worrying about the air quality or curl up under the duvet with a good book. I'm delighted to have a rainy day in the summer because it's just a little bit cooler without the sun beating down.

But this summer, I have been looking forward to Wednesdays. I can't believe it's already August and the summer is more than half over. I'm actually sad (well, almost) that summer will be over in few weeks.

The reason Wednesdays are so special this summer is because of the Red Wiggler CSA. Each week brings a new load of veggies. This week we have some real gems: heirloom tomatoes. I couldn't resist and ate one right away. It was the most delicious tomato I have ever had. No wonder kids hate tomatoes. I would too if I was fed the mealy, flavorless "tomatoes" that are sold in the grocery stores. Not these babies. Delicious! No dressing required!

This week's harvest:
- tomatoes
- cherry tomatoes
- heirloom tomatoes
- squash
- cucumbers
- potatoes (including some yummy blue ones!)
- hot peppers
- sweet peppers
- beans
- eggplant
- wildflowers from the pick your own garden (zinnias and one dahlia)

Delicious heirlooms tomatoes (the yellow one was fantastic... I ate it while writing this!)
